The CHIPS and Science Act, which is aimed at boosting the American semiconductor industry, passed the Senate on Wednesday, and the House is expected to vote on it as early as Thursday. It's goal is countering a global microchip shortage as well as shoring up national security. Microchips are used in everyday items like cars and computers, but are also essential for US military technology. While no one seems to be objecting to made-in-America microchips, some are balking at the price tag and whether this amounts to an industry handout.
